Ran in to grab sliced mushrooms for my potluck salad. Had to sift through many packages to find one fresh enough to serve raw. Line ups were remarkably long. My cashier was a trainee and quite efficient.
Gross Chinese food buffet. Came in to get supper at 5:30 pm and this was the state of the buffet counter. Sadly this is not the first time I've encountered this mess and dried up food. I watched the cook add freshly made dishes to the old dried up questionably edible pans rather than replace the new dishes in clean buffet pans. I tried to complain to the manager but after 3 pages for the on duty manager no one showed up. Even one star is generous!
Sometimes the stock is a little on the iffy side for produce, but it's still miles better than Sobeys or Superstore.Reese is the best cashier, fast and efficient but takes the time to have a little chat and make you laugh while he's ringing you up.
Although I find the other Safeway in St. Albert (Gateway Safeway) more "cozy" per se, this one is bigger and has a much better selection (not to mention closer to where I live haha). Its bakery is currently my favorite one from a St. Albert grocery store. Their Chinese food buffet is a really cool feature that isn't available at other St. Albert grocery stores. The produce is always really fresh, although I am frustrated that I never am able to find the Our Compliments vegetable medley's here anymore - gotta go to Sobey's to get that now haha. The staff are helpful and friendly, and the selection is good. Much like Sobey's though, prices are a bit high. Safeway is good for some things (it seems all the grocery stores have their own appeal), but many brand name products can be purchased for a cheaper price at Wal Mart or Superstore.
Clean store. Nice bakery. Poor deli. Great Chinese food buffet.
